Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for Space Research
The Center for Space Research (CSR) is a renovation primarily of the 6th floor of Building 37 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. CSR is a center that supports research in space science and engineering, astrophysics and astronomy in addition to playing a leading role in the design of instruments placed aboard NASA space crafts.
In an effort to attract first class faculty and students to MIT, the primary goal of this design was to create an identity for the center while promoting interaction between various user groups. The realized design utilized sloping metal ceilings with open planned areas and glass walls to allow daylight into the central spaces. Along with the 6th floor design, other areas within the building were reconfigured to support the department’s functions.
